Happy 59th!

A happy 59th birthday to Doctor Who this week!

What a month it’s been… we’ve had Jodie’s farewell in The Power of the Doctor, the news that the show will move to Disney+ next year (great potential but a sad loss for the ABC), a Guinness World Record for William Russell, and the announcement of Millie Gibson as new companion Ruby Sunday.

Just yesterday we had birthday messages from David Tennant and Catherine Tate, new art of Tennant and all the Doctors, a reveal of a special new logo for the 60th, and an announcement from Big Finish of an eight-part adventure released next year featuring the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th Doctors.

For members – Sonic Screwdriver issue #49 has been sent out this week, and new membership cards for digital members are on the way now.

Our Christmas party for this year has also been added to the upcoming events – hopefully we’ll see you on December 10 for an extended meeting at The Hub.

April Meeting

Please note our April meeting at the Hub will be moved back two weeks to April 23, due to conflicts with other clubs’ meetings around the Easter holiday.

Following our look at William Hartnell’s era, and the recent popular screening of Evil of the Daleks, this meeting will take a look back at Patrick Troughton’s time on the show. We’ll also discuss Legend of the Sea Devils, as well as Christopher Eccleston’s appearance at Supanova Melbourne.

For those free on the 9th, you can find details of a TARDIS Trip to see The Batman and Morbius (with Matt Smith) on our Facebook events page.

COVID-19: Meetings and Events Cancelled Until Further Notice

Like many other events around the country and world, we have decided to cancel our upcoming meetings, not only in view of the restrictions put in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19 but to ensure the safety and health of our members and attendees. At this time is is not known how long the restrictions will last for, but our April meeting will be cancelled and most likely the May meeting. We will also not be running any TARDIS Trips until further notice.

Once we know it is safe to schedule our meetings and events again, we will post the information here as well as on our Social Media channels.

On behalf of the committee of the DWCV, we hope everyone is keeping safe and we look forward to seeing you all again when this state of emergency has passed. In the meantime, it’s a good time to re-watch some of your favourite episodes while people are restricted to mostly staying indoors.

Its our 40th Anniversary!

For 40 years the DWCV has been there for Whovians of all ages to get together to discuss, debate and celebrate their favourite TV show. There has been many highs and lows over the past 40 years and through it all the club has been there.

We invite all members, non-members, friends and fans to join us on a celebratory boat cruise.
