Who’s Who Postponed

Unfortunately Culture Shock Event’s Doctor Who convention has been postponed until 2019. No date has been set, but they are looking at a mid-2019 date. According to their Facebook post, the event and their Star Trek event – Final Frontiers, has been postponed due to a lack of ticket sales.

“After discussions with the guests and their agents, in order to secure the guests we would like as well as ensuring the best event for fans and the guests, it has been decided to postpone both Final Frontiers and Who’s Who until 2019. Current ticket sales unfortunately did not make them viable to run at this time. With more time, and a little more organisational detail, we feel that the move will make for better events in the end.”

Who’s Who: Graeme Harper Added

A third guest has been added to Culture Shock’s Who’s Who convention. Graeme Harper is unique in that he has directed both classic and new series episodes of Doctor Who – having worked with Peter Davison and Colin Baker in the classic series, and David Tennant in the new series. Graeme has also worked on the Doctor Who spin-off, The Sarah Jane Adventures.

Reveal: 12th Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver

Although there have been a few glimpses of the 12th Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver, until now we had not really seen what it completely looked like. Jodie Whittaker herself unveiled the toy version of her Sonic Screwdriver at an event at San Diego Comic Con. The toy/collectible version is meant to be a perfect replica of the on-screen version and will feature a light crystal and two buttons to control the light and sound of the device.

The 12th Doctor’s Sonic screwdriver takes a turn away from the traditional Sonic Screwdriver design, having a more organic look. The light crystal is a soft lavender colour, but when let up, it becomes a fiery orange colour.

The Sonic Screwdriver is meant to be released in mid-August, but we are assuming that this will be a UK and/or US release date as in the past, the Australian release date has been much later unfortunately. At time of writing, no Australian release date could be found online.

Who’s Who: Dan Starkey Added

Dan Starkey has been added as a guest for Culture Shock Event’s upcoming Who’s Who convention. Dan Starkey is best known for his recurring role as Strax in Doctor Who, but has also played a number of other characters in the show – mainly of the Sonatran race. Dan will be joining Caitlin Blackwood (Young Amelia Pond) at this event on November 18th.

Young Amelia Pond Coming to Melbourne

Culture Shock events has announced that they will be holding a Doctor who convention later this year. Caitlin Blackwood who played Young Amelia Pond will be coming to Melbourne on November 18th in their “Who’s Who” event. Peter Capaldi Coming to Supanova Melbourne

Supanova Comic Con and Gaming has announced their first guest for 2018. And what a huge guest it is to be, especially for us Doctor Who fans! None other than the 12th Doctor himself, Peter Capaldi will be coming to the Melbourne and Gold Coast shows in 2018.

The announcement was made via a live Facebook video after the final Supanova show for the year in Adelaide over the weekend. Supanova made the announcement surrounded by Daleks from the Australian Dalek Builders Union (who are based in Adelaide).

Of course, providing Peter doesn’t have any filming commitments pop-up at that time, this will certainly be an exciting time for the Doctor Who Club of Victoria.

Watch this space and our Social Media pages for more information on what the club will be bringing to Supanova. And follow up on all of the Supanova news at www.supanova.com.au.

Supanova will take place in Melbourne on the weekend of April 20-22 in 2018.

Shada to be shown in Australian Cinemas

Selected cinemas around Australia will be showing the previously abandoned story Shada starring Tom Baker and Lalla Ward on the weekend of November 24-26. The previously uncompleted scenes have been bought back to life using animation. The new version will consist of original footage upscaled to high-definition, combined with the new animation sequences. For more information and participating cinemas, visit the Sharmill Films website.

Please note that the club won’t be organising a TARDIS trip for this event, as being on the same weekend as our Anniversary/Christmas party, we will be hard at work with this.

But why not have your own Whovian weekend – you could go to a screening on Friday night, our Anniversary/Christmas Party on Saturday, and the Whovian Parade on Sunday. See the Events page for full details.
