January Meeting Cancelation
01 Jan, 2010
Due to the Guide Hall cancelling our booking with little warning, we need to cancel our January meeting. The meeting was fully bookend and confirmed, but they needed to do apparently urgent renovations and chose the weekend of our meeting. We did look around Geelong for a suitable replacement, but nothing suited our needs, pricing, or location - the other venues cost considerably more and the few Melbourne people who attend need the be able to walk to the venue.A separate social club, run by former President Judith, called Doctor Who Club of Geelong will be meeting on the 31st of January at Rippleside Park (Bell Parade , Drumcondra) with a noon start. I encourage anyone disappointed with the Guide Hall's cancellation to attend this instead. I will be going down myself, as it is a Sunday and do not have to work, so I can give a couple of people a lift if needed.
Secondly, our March meeting will conflict with the TriCon. Obviously there is little point holding the meeting on the same day as a convention so we are going to need to change its date. We have not decided how to replace this meeting yet, although there is a Melbourne Science Fiction Club meeting on April the 9th, the theme of which is Doctor Who model making. We may draw some attention to that and just have a less formal meeting, maybe an away one.
If anyone would like to give suggestions for the March meeting, please do. Someone did say a Laser Wars one, although I would like to try an arrange an inter-club one for that theme. We could always do Strike Bowling as that seemed popular every few years we did that. One guy suggested a beach meeting, down in St Kilda, but the club has not done one of those for about six years, although we did get about ten people turning out (including me who ended up being suckered into being a committee aid).
